Cannabis Safety For Your & Your Family

House of Cannabis is Committed to Cannabis Safety for Your & Your Family

Toronto Legal Cannabis Weed Store

Whether you've spent much time thinking about it or not, there are a lot of things that need to be considered when it comes to keeping cannabis products in the house where your children live.

While there is no inherent life-threatening danger per say, there are a lot of unpleasant things that can happen if a small child manages to get their hands on your stash. There is also very little information about the long-term effects of cannabis products on kids.

House of Cannabis stores in Toronto are committed to ensuring that the minors in our local communities are protected from intentionally or unintentionally accessing cannabis products until a time that they're old enough to legally purchase them.

With that in mind, we've got 7 tips that you can follow for keeping your kids out of your cannabis. The next time that you're ordering weed delivery in Mississauga, these cannabis tips could come in handy for protecting your family.

Before we jump into that, let's discuss why cannabis safety matters.

Why Does Cannabis Safety Matter?

The most serious reason that you'll want to keep your kids away from your cannabis and why cannabis safety matters is that there have been no major long-term studies about how cannabis affects the bodies of children.

The last thing that you'd want your kids to do is access something you ordered for weed delivery in Mississauga, and have cannabis products leave a negative impact on your child's physical or mental health.

That's right - mental health too. Think about how confusing and frightening it would be as a child to find a piece of chocolate that your mom or dad were eating, popping it into your mouth, and then suddenly starting to feel very weird about 30-45 minutes later.

This kind of serious event can leave long-lasting trauma on a child, especially if you figure out what happened and rush them off to the hospital in a panic.

There are lots of other reasons you should avoid this happening, and this doesn't even take into account the potential risks that go along with a child finding more potent cannabis concentrates that are 4x-5x stronger than even normal cannabis products.

It all boils down to trust. How can your child ever trust chocolate again in the scenario we mentioned before?

These situations are the kind that build phobias in children, and the last thing you want to do is have your love of cannabis negatively impact your children in a way that they carry with them for years to come.

Can I Still Be a Good Parent & Be a Cannabis User?

Yes, you definitely can.

There are thousands of parents in Canada that are both cannabis consumers and also fantastic role models. There's a very big difference between smoking a pre-rolled joint or using an edible after your kids have gone to bed, and sitting on the couch next to them smoking cannabis.

The old negative stigmas that parents have to be 'burnt out and lazy' because they use cannabis is as outdated as the plastic water bottle bubblers that veteran users relied on prior to legalization.

But things have changed. You can get cannabis delivery in Mississauga now, weed products and accessories are safer and easier to use, and there is a whole universe of different types of cannabis products to explore.

The one thing that hasn't changed is how important it is to keep our kids protected from cannabis, until they're old enough to understand it and use it legally.

Do that, and you should have no reason to feel bad about being a parent and a cannabis consumer - those old negative stigmas don't have to weigh down on you anymore.

7 Tips for Protecting Your Kids from Cannabis in Your Home

1.) Keep It Locked Up

This might seem like the most obvious suggestion, and yet, hundreds of people every year forget to put away the stuff they ordered for weed delivery in Mississauga and cannabis products get grabbed by their kids.

It doesn't need to be locked in a safe with retina and finger-print scanners to be safe. Keep it on a locked box on the top shelf of your bedroom closet. Put cannabis products outside in the garage or shed – out of reach and out of sight.

There's no perfect answer here, but plan tactfully where you keep your cannabis products for the safety of your kids, and you won't have an issue.

2.) Wait Till After Bedtime

You may be tempted to use some of your cannabis products during the day (especially on the weekends), but for safety's sake, it's best to wait until after the kiddos are in bed before you bust out the good stuff.

If you're using cannabis for reasons that don't involve the psychoactive portions of the plant, consider keeping some CBD oils or other cannabis products that only contain negligible amounts of THC (to help activate your body's cannabinoid system), and none of those euphoric effects.

This way, even if they did get their hands on it (still not a good idea), it would mean slightly less cause for concern.

3.) Don't Leave Weed Accessories Lying Around

It's a good rule of thumb to avoid leaving anything that you get for cannabis delivery in Mississauga, but weed accessories are easy to forget about, because they aren't the things that you're ordering when you restock - they're the tools that you keep around to use your favourite cannabis products.

This could mean your weed grinder, pipes, bongs, rolling papers, vape pens and cartridges, or dab rigs.

There's plenty of cannabis residue on these weed accessories, and that makes them potential contact points for your kids. Keep them out of reach and out of sight, so your kids won't be tempted to play with them.

If they do ever happen to stumble across them, you can always just tell them your bong is a smelly vase.

4.) Talk to Your Older Kids About Cannabis Use

Not all kids are shuffling around with diapers and have to be worried about sticking random objects in their mouth, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be concerned about your older kids getting into your cannabis products.

The best thing that you can do for your children and for yourself if you're a cannabis consumer is talking to them about it, once they reach an age where they can understand why you use cannabis and how it benefits you.

The conversations that we have with our kids help shape the way that they see the world. If you can help defeat negative cannabis stigmas in your kids before they're even developed, your kids will be well-adjusted to face their own potential cannabis use in a mature, responsible way - if they choose to consume once they're old enough.

5.) Don't Keep Edibles or Cannabis Drinks in the Fridge

It can be incredibly tempting to want to keep your edibles or cannabis drinks in the fridge. But this is a recipe for disaster, if your kid is old enough that they're going in and out of the refrigerator whenever they feel like it.

You won't always be watching when they're in the fridge, and a 'cool looking drink' with a weird, hard-to-open lid might seem mighty enticing for them. It doesn't take long for a kid to eat an edible or finish a cannabis drink, but once they've done it, it'll be too late.

Avoid this by either keeping a separate fridge somewhere else in the house, where your child doesn't have access, or simply don't keep them refrigerated. We live in Ontario after all, so six months out of the year (at least), you'd get basically the same effect keeping them out of sight in the garage or shed.

6.) Properly Dispose of Your Garbage

This is another factor that many cannabis consumers who are parents neglect to consider when they're trying to protect their kids from accessing their cannabis products.

If you're smoking pre-rolled joints, where are you throwing the roaches when you're done? Where are you putting empty vape cartridges? What about packaging that your cannabis products come in, which may still contain cannabis residue?

All of these things can be potential contact points for your kids. Especially young kids, who might open the garbage and reach inside to grab whatever they can find.

Alternatively, you can get a garbage lid lock, so that you can comfortably throw all the trash leftover from your weed delivery in Mississauga in the bin without having to worry about it.

7.) Don't Share - Even if You Think They're Old Enough

Unless your kids are 19 years of age or older, you shouldn't be giving them cannabis products. Period.

Not only is this illegal, but there are reasons why this line has been drawn as acceptable for cannabis and alcohol use. Allowing kids access to cannabis products before they're legally old enough can establish unhealthy patterns for them, which can lead to poor choices as they reach adulthood.

There's nothing wrong with talking to your kids about cannabis products. In fact, we'd recommend it. But you should never order cannabis delivery in Mississauga for them. Weed products and accessories are restricted for a reason.
