House of Cannabis Stores in Toronto Want to Get You Ready for a Good Time
There aren’t many holidays that have become synonymous with cannabis use, but 420 is probably the closest foreseeable thing that we’ll get in the near future that celebrates cannabis consumption in all its forms.
Some people think of 420 like the St. Patrick’s Day of cannabis celebrations, but the truth of the matter is that St. Patrick’s Day is based on a historical figure, and 420 is an event that’s historically based in trying to reduce negative stigmas associated with the cannabis plant, as well as celebrate its use and potential benefits.
There’s plenty to do on 420 after you order cannabis delivery in Mississauga to restock weed products or accessories, but before we get to House of Cannabis stores in Toronto’s suggestions for some 420 fun in Mississauga, let’s talk about where the 420 celebrations originated.
A Brief History of 420
The term 420 actually began back in the 1970’s in California.
In fact, the term was first coined by a group of five high school students (nicknamed ‘the Waldos’), who would meet every week at 4:20pm to go off in search of a mysterious cannabis plant that was rumored to be somewhere in a nearby forest.
The reason they chose 420 is actually quite interesting, because it has nothing to do with cannabis itself. All five students were part of school athletics programs, so they weren’t available to meet to continue their search until 4:20pm in the afternoon.
They were never able to find that mythical cannabis plant, but their terminology actually caught on. Soon, once word began to spread of this interesting code word, 420 became part of the normal cannabis culture language. It also helped them keep their habits out of the eyes of their teachers and disapproving peers.
The term jumped in popularity again, because of the ties the group members had to various parts of the famous Grateful Dead band. Eventually, due to the popularity of the band and 420’s use within the Grateful Dead fanbase, the term 420 quickly became part of the cannabis lingo across much of the United States.
Eventually, this terminology became so ingrained in cannabis culture that people started celebrating April 20th (04/20) as national cannabis day. While never officialized by any North American government, these celebrations can be found across many cities in both Canada and the United States.
Watch carefully, and you’ll find some of the coolest, most interesting events based around 420 celebrations.
